Aayi Mandapam, also known as the Park Monument, is a white monument located at the center of Bharathi Park in Pondicherry, India. Constructed during the reign of French Emperor Napoleon III, it commemorates the provision of water to the city during French colonial rule. The monument is named after a courtesan named Aayi, who sacrificed her own house to build a water reservoir for the city.
The monument is situated in the heart of Bharathi Park, a well-maintained green space in Pondicherry. Visitors can enjoy the park’s lush lawns, fountains, and blooming flowers while exploring the monument.
Aayi Mandapam is approximately 2 kilometers from the Pondicherry Bus Stand. Visitors can reach it by taking a bus to the Bharathi Park stop or by hiring a rickshaw.
Nearby attractions include the Raj Nivas (the residence of the Lieutenant Governor), the French War Memorial, and the Old Lighthouse. The best time to visit is between October and March, when the climate is more favorable.
