Located on Thennansalai Road in Pudupalaiyam (behind Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand / Govindasamy Thottam area, approx. 1.5 km from Puducherry Railway Station), the Maṇṇuruṭṭi Siddhar Temple is built over the Jeeva Samadhi of the 20th-century mystic Maṇṇuruṭṭi Swamigal. The saint earned his name "Maṇṇuruṭṭi" (soil roller) due to his unique spiritual practice of rolling small balls of earth in his hand while absorbed in deep contemplation. Local tradition holds that the soil given by the Siddhar miraculously transformed into sacred ash (Vibhuti), kumkum, or sweets for devotees. Swamigal attained Jeeva Samadhi on Mattu Pongal in 1963, and his peaceful shrine remains a sought-after sanctuary for silent meditation and prayer.
