Auroville is an internationally recognized township located near Pondicherry, India, founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa, also known as The Mother, a close associate of Sri Aurobindo. Auroville is based on the vision of Sri Aurobindo and his concept of human unity, peace, and sustainable living.
The Auroville community is open to visitors throughout the week, but there are specific timings for different areas, especially the Matrimandir (the central meditation center) and the Visitor’s Centre.

Matrimandir Viewing Point: Open to visitors from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM for those wishing to see the Matrimandir from a distance.
Auroville’s Shops and Cafes:
Many of Auroville’s boutiques, eco-shops, and cafes are open throughout the day.
Timings generally range from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, but this can vary depending on the specific shop or cafe.
Best Time for Visitors:
Morning: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM is ideal to explore Auroville as the weather is pleasant, and the Matrimandir can be visited.
Evening: Some parts of Auroville, like the Visitor’s Centre and certain cafes, may also remain open until late afternoon or evening.
Important Notes:
Entry to Matrimandir requires prior registration and booking a pass in advance. Visits are usually conducted in small groups.
